The glorious mountains, rushing rivers and lush forests scattered around the North Shore are what makes Vancouver one of the top places to live. However, out of all the various clubs and activities the North Shore offers, there is not a youth environmental activist group. To combat environmental strife throughout our city, Emily Kelsall, a Ggrade 12 environmental rights prodigy, and myself, have partnered up to combat the ever increasing struggle between the environment and the humans who inhabit it. Despite being a new group, Y.E.A.N.S. has already made its mark in the West Vancouver community by spending their Sunday, the day before the federal election, onesie canvasing. Walking along the seawall, members Emily Kelsall, Audrey Bicknell, and myself, made sure the people of West Van voted with the environment in mind. We can successfully say that our efforts were not in vain, as Pam Gold-Smith Jones was just elected as West Vancouver’s future MP this very afternoon. This is only one of the many events Y.E.A.N.S. is planning for not only the future of the environment, but society, to stay as prosperous and beautiful as it is today.
