Why You Should Spend Your Summer in Vancouver

The days are getting longer, the snow has melted away, and the temperature is rising. We made it through the seemingly endless Vancouver winter.

This city is known for its beauty, and the months from May to September prove it. But what Vancouver should also be recognized for is its ability to entertain anyone and everyone. Catch the summer while you can, and spend it the right way.

So, what are the best ways to maximize the summer? Here are a few reasons to prove that you’ll never regret spending a summer in this city:

For those you are willing to do a little travelling outside of the city borders, heading to a music festival will be a memorable event. Up near Whistler, Pemberton Music Festival is happening from July 16th to 19th. You’ll be able to see countless artists, including Hozier, Kid Cudi, Weezer, and Kendrick Lamar. Another music festival happening a little closer to the city is the Squamish Music Festival. Go for a day, or for a few. It runs from August 7th to 9th. Featured artists are Mumford and Sons, Drake, and George Ezra. Between these two festivals, you’ll have your fill of music. (Check out Emily Larman’s article on festivals this summer)

If you’re planning on attending these festivals, you may need to do a little shopping. After all, who doesn’t love retail therapy? Nordstrom is set to open its downtown location on September 18th. But you definitely don’t have to wait for Nordstrom to obtain your summer wardrobe. Downtown Vancouver is filled to the brim with stores such as Victoria’s Secret, Aritzia, Browns Shoes, American Apparel and more.

You’re still missing out, though, if you haven’t experienced Playland. If you’re an adventure-seeker, head over to the PNE. Hop on exhilarating rides, have some tasty food, and listen to a few bands. Rides and concerts will be happening from now until September 20th. If rides aren’t thrilling enough for you, there’s more. Test your fear of heights by jumping off of the Red Box in Caulfield (West Vancouver).

The possibilities of things to do in and around Vancouver during the summer are endless. Why not hike Whyte Lake or the Chief? Take a sailing lesson out on the ocean. Stop at Mom’s Grilled Cheese Truck and potentially be featured on the well-known Food Network show: Eat Street. The reality is, no matter what you like to do, a summer in Vancouver is an unforgettable one. Don’t let this season pass you by and don’t feel the need to have to get away, either; start your summer right here in Vancouver.
