Sufjan Stevens Invites You To Come On And Feel The Illinoise is a concept album entirely based on the culture and history surrounding the state of Illinois. If you’ve got a soft spot for a good concept album then it’ll be easy to fall in love with this one. If you don’t necessarily, you’ll probably still end up loving Illinoise anyways. The songwriting’s just so darn good.
Among the best qualities this album possesses is its orchestration. Without it, these songs would sound too busy and discombobulated. On the contrary, these songs sound more like grand turmoils of excitement rather than anything too distracting. Moment after moment, I find myself grinning ear to ear, and as the vocals break into cannon I can’t help but sing along.
FAV TRACK: THEY ARE NIGHT ZOMBIES!! THEY ARE NEIGHBOURS!! THEY HAVE COME BACK FROM THE DEAD!! AHHH!
