Three grade eleven girls have organized a Halloween costume drive for children at Thunderbird Elementary School in Vancouver. The costume drive entailed students from both Morven and Wentworth bringing in gently used costumes for this upcoming Halloween. Most of these children’s families are not capable of purchasing costumes that these children may want, due to the crazy increase of prices in costumes and accessories. Most thrift stores, including Value Village, have limited selections and may not leave these children completely satisfied with their costume. The girls delivered the costumes to Thunderbird Elementary on Friday 28th. Here’s how one of them described the delivery:
“The students were thrilled, all crowding around the five garbage bags full of costumes. They were peeking in the bags and asking questions like ‘Excuse me? Do you think I could get the monkey costume?’ It was four days before Halloween, and the majority of these children were expecting to use last year’s costume.” Halloween should be an event every child can enjoy, not just those who can afford it. Thank you to all the students and staff that helped these children have the fun Halloween they deserve.
