Collingwood’s Senior Tennis Team took home first place at the AA BCSS Provincial Tennis Tournament for the eighth year in a row, May 28th – 30th. British Columbia’s top AA High School tennis teams competed at the AA tournament, which was held at Queen Elizabeth Park, May 28th – 30th.. Led by the exemplary coaching team of Mr. Rose and Mr. Wong, Collingwood’s Tennis Team dominated play throughout the tournament, leading them to their gold medals and first place finish.
After defeating University Hill, Archbishop Carney, St. Michael’s University and Shawnigan Lake, the Collingwood team advanced to the finals. The matches were most demanding in the gruelling heat of the sun. With friends, family and teachers cheering them on, Collingwood ultimately defeated their rival Carson Graham 7-4, and claimed their well-deserved first place and gold medals.
At the awards ceremony, two of Collingwood’s tennis players were recognized for their excellence. Kyla Jarrar, Collingwood’s girl’s tennis powerhouse, won the “Best Girls Singles Player” Award. Collingwood’s preeminent Isaac Davies claimed the “Best Boys Singles Player” Award. With gold medals around their necks, Collingwood’s tennis team proudly posed for their photo with the AA BCSS Tennis Provincial Trophy. Additionally, Kristine Falck was recognized during the awards ceremony for her work creating and designing the BCSS Tennis website (http://www.bcschooltennis.net).
When asked about the Provincials, singles player Isaac Davies said “Bringing home the provincial title this year took a monumental effort from the entire team, which made our victory all the more rewarding.” With his exceptional skill, calm demeanor, and unyielding support of the team, Isaac was a pivotal component to the Cavalier’s win this year! Not only was he undefeated at the tournament, annihilating his competitors with ease, but he also assisted the team in strategizing against Carson Graham, Collingwood’s 2015 tennis nemesis.
