Electronica: Sylvan Esso (2014) / Sylvan Esso

Although I could see this record being sold to oblivious teenage girls at Urban Outfitters (the same target demographic who are depressingly oblivious to the existence of, albeit subjectively, “good music” and who obsess over the overly saturated Lana Del Rey, Halsey, or Vampire Weekend release and who are so one-dimensionally “artsy” that they would rather post an instagram photo about what they’re listening to than to turn the gosh-darn record over onto its B-Side on their atrocious foldable luggage-style Crosley record players after they’ve looked at how pretty it is for long enough and don’t even bother to give the album a chance at a holistic listening experience), Sylvan Esso’s eponymous debut is, with the exception of the track “H.S.K.T.”, brilliant. It’s what I wish the radio would play more often. It’s what I wish older people would stereotypically associate our generation with more often.
