Senior Field Hockey ISA Champions
The Senior Field Hockey girls went out of town to their own ISA tournament, where, like the boys, they ended up taking home the gold. Their final game was up against St. Michaels. The game started with a goal from the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers were up until the halftime break. Just after half-time, St. Michael’s scored to tie the game up. With two minutes left in the game St. Michael’s scored to go up by a goal. Even though it seemed there was no hope the Cavaliers used everything left in their tanks, and scored with 30 seconds left. After this, the game went to penalty shots. Rachel Spouge scored the opening shot to put Collingwood up in the shootout. Just after Rachel, a SMU shooter scored to tie it up. The next four shooters for both teams missed, so it went into sudden death shootouts where you can put forward any shooter. Collingwood put Rachel forward again, and she scored. This gave the SMU shooter a chance to tie the game, but Natalie Dalton, the Collingwood goalie, stopped her, thus securing the Cavaliers’ gold medal at ISA’s!
The Field Hockey program at Collingwood has always been notorious for their success over the years. This year it looks like it will be no different, with the girls taking home first place. Their team consists of very talented players with no weak links. Although there are few Seniors on the team, the team is still flourishing, which is testament to the team’s future. They are definitely a force on the field. Seeing the talent first hand, I am very intrigued to follow the rest of the season, and the future looks very bright for the girls. Get ready to see lots more goals, assists, and saves in the near future.
